A series of stories of a British member of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. Written by C.S. Forester. Hornblower goes from midshipman to admiral, and from commoner to lord, over the course of the stories, which were written out of chronological order. They lack the exquisitely detailed sailing lore of the Aubrey-Maturin series, which may make them more accessible to the average reader.
